Our Fees

At Everingham Solomons, we understand that clients like to know how much our services will cost them. We agree that you should have a clear understanding of the costs involved.  We will discuss our charges with you at the initial consultation and where appropriate a Costs Agreement will be provided (under the Legal profession Regulation there are some specific disclosure requirements).

Services are generally provided to clients on either a fixed fee basis (such as for most straightforward residential conveyancing services) or at an agreed hourly rate, or sometimes a combination of the two.

Hourly charge rates are determine according to the skill and experience of the individual Solicitor.

In some matter types it is often not possible to predict the course the matter will take and therefore we are only able to give you an estimate of the final cost.  Many matters can take a long time to resolve or complete due to the nature of the matter and/or the responses of the other party.  We will advise you of your options in these instances.

Disbursements (Out of Pocket Expenses)

It is important to note that in many matters we will need to incur expenses on your behalf, which we will pass on to you.  Such expenses are often referred to as Disbursements and may include the costs of undertaking mandatory property searches or acquiring certificates from government authorities.  The majority of these costs are levied by government authorities and are beyond our control.

Depending upon the nature of the matter, we may ask you to contribute towards the cost of these Disbursements at the outset of the matter.

No Charges for - Telephone Calls, Faxes & Photocopying

Unlike many law firms, Everingham Solomons do not universally charge "in-house"  disbursements.  With the exception of large litigation matters, we do not charge you for telephone calls, faxes received and sent, or photocopying costs.  We abolished the on-charging of these costs in response to feedback from our clients.

No Charges for - Bank Cheques for Conveyancing Settlements

In many conveyancing matters often several cheques are required for settlement to make payments to involved parties such as the vendor, the real estate agent, the local council, the other parties solicitors and the like.  Such cheques must be Bank Cheques which incur a cost of around $6.00 to $15.00 each, depending upon the bank.  For our clients, Everingham Solomons have negotiated bank cheques for settlements free of any service charge.
